    Jeera Aloo Recipe ( Cumin Potatoes + Video)

    Jeera Aloo Recipe is a delicious and flavourful Indian side dish made with potatoes, Cumin seeds and spices. This quick and easy dish comes together in minutes and pairs perfectly with rice and roti. You only need a handful of ingredients to make this fry!

    WHAT IS JEERA ALOO?

    Jeera means Cumin in Hindi and Aloo to potato. Cumin Potatoes is one of the most common and easiest Indian side dishes that is served with roti and rice.

    You enjoy this side dish with COCONUT RICE, PULIHORA RICE, GHEE RICE and JEERA RICE. There are many ways to prepare this recipe, such as boiling the potatoes first and then cooking the dish, or cutting the potatoes into small pieces and cooking them without boiling.

    INGREDIENTS TO MAKE CUMIN POTATOES:

    potato cumin fry
    • Potatoes
    • Cumin seeds
    • Green chillies
    • Red chilli powder
    • Coriander powder
    • Cumin powder
    • Turmeric powder
    • Ginger
    • Half lemon
    • Curry leaves
    • Coriander leaves
    • Salt to taste
    • Oil

    JEERA ALOO RECIPE WITH STEPWISE INSTRUCTIONS:

    • First, wash and peel the skin of the potatoes and then cut them into small pieces. Next, soak them in a bowl of water until you start using them.
    • Next, cut the ginger and green chillies into small pieces and keep them aside.
    • Now, heat a pan with oil and then add cumin seeds. Then allow it to crackle and add green chillies, curry leaves and chopped ginger. Saute for a couple of minutes.
    • After that, add chopped potatoes, turmeric, red chilli, coriander, cumin powder and salt to taste. Then, mix well and saute for few minutes on medium flame.
    • Next, cover and cook the potatoes for 8-10 minutes on a low-medium flame until the potatoes are nicely cooked.
    • After 10 minutes, open the lid and mix well. By now, it will be cooked nicely - if not cook for another couple of minutes.
    • Now, switch off the heat and squeeze half of a lemon into the potatoes. Then, add finely chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
    • Finally, transfer the delicious fry into a serving bowl and enjoy!

    NOTES:

    • Adjust the spices according to your taste.
    • You can make this dish with leftover cooked potatoes.

    Ingredients

    • Potatoes - 3 or 4 (medium) chopped
    • Cumin seeds-1tsp
    • Green chillies -1 or 2
    • Red chilli powder-1tsp
    • Coriander powder-1tsp

    • Ginger -1tsp (chopped)

    • Curry leaves
    • Coriander leaves (handful)
    • Salt to taste
    • Oil-2 tbsp
