Easy Trifle Pudding is a delicious, creamy and flavourful no-bake dessert layered with Jelly, creamy custard, softly whipped cream and fresh fruits. It is a perfect show stopper dessert that can prepare beforehand and stored in the refrigerator.
Custard Trifle Pudding
Trifles are a classic British dessert consisting of layers of custard, sponge fingers or cake pieces soaked in syrup (or fruit juice or sherry), fruits, jam or jelly, and a thick layer of whipped cream on top.

In this recipe, I have used my leftover vanilla cake as a base, but can use sponge fingers or crush any biscuits and use them as a base.

Ingredients to make Trifle Recipe
- Jelly Powder - Here I have used store brought vegetarian jelly powder flavoured with strawberry
- Vanilla cake - I used my leftover cake as the base
- Whole milk - Used whole milk
- Sugar -Granulated sugar is used
- Custard powder - I used original Birds custard powder
- Double cream/heavy whipping cream
- Fresh strawberries
- Few mint leaves for garnishing

Instructions
How to make trifle pudding
Wash and chop strawberries into small pieces and keep them aside.
Prepare the flavoured jelly as per instructions on the packet and keep it aside.
Line the bottom of the glass cups you want to serve with cake pieces or sponge fingers in an even layer.
Cover the cake pieces with sliced strawberries, followed by a liquid jelly and put them in the fridge to set.
Making of creamy custard
Next mix custard powder with cold milk without any lumps. Keep aside.
Pour the milk into a saucepan and bring the milk to boil, add sugar and then slowly add the custard mixture and stir to avoid forming lumps.
Cook for another 2-5 minutes until it you get the desired thick consistency.
Switch off the stove and transfer into a bowl.
Allow it to cool and then store in the refrigerator until it is set or for at least 1 hour
Making of whipping cream
Into a bowl, add the double cream and whisk using a beater until you get soft peaks as shown in the picture.
Assembling this easy trifle pudding
Fill the custard to ⅓rd on the prepared jelly cups and then fill the remaining with whipped cream and top it with a few strawberries and mint leaves.
Variations
- If you don't have any cake you can use storebrougt sponge fingers or crushed biscuits as a base.
- You can add your favourite fruits instead of strawberries in it.
Storing of trifle pudding
If you have any leftover trifle, cover it with cling film and store it in the refrigerator. It will be good for up to 3 days.
Top tip
If using jelly, prepare it in enough time to set properly. You can also prepare all the ingredients before and keep them ready in the refrigerator before assembling a trifle.

- 500 ml Whole milk
- Vanilla cake or any sponge cake(cut into pieces)
- 3 to 4 tablespoon Custard powder
- 4 tablespoon Sugar
- 1 Cup Double cream
- 10-12 Fresh Strawberries
- Few Mint leaves

- Switch off the stove and transfer into a bowl.
- Allow it to cool and then store in the refrigerator until it is set or for at least 1 hour
