Rava Upma is an easy and delicious south Indian breakfast. It is prepared by roasting semolina in ghee and stirring in hot water along with onions and green chillies. You can also add your favourite veggies to this upma. It is a perfect lunch box recipe for kids which is done within 20 minutes.

STEP BY STEP PICTURES OF MAKING RAVA UPMA RECIPE
Ingredients:
- Rava/ Semolina – 1cup
- Finely chopped onion – 1
- Green chillies – 4
- Mustard seeds – ½tsp
- Urad dal – ½tsp
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Chana dal – 1tsp
- Cashew nuts – 2tbsp
- Curry leaves a few
- Ghee – 2tsp
- Oil – 2tsp
- Salt to taste
Preparation:
Heat a pan with ghee, add rava and roast on low flame until you get a nice aroma.
Transfer the roasted Rava on to the plate and keep aside.
Chop green chillies into halves and keep aside.
Heat the same pan which we used to roast the Rava with oil, add mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, cumin seeds, cashew nuts and saute for a minute.
Add chopped onions along with green chillies and fry until onion changes its colour.
Add 2 cups of water to the pan along with salt and bring it to boil.
Slowly add the roasted rava and mix it without any lumps in it.
Cover and cook until all the water is evaporated or rava is cooked.
Finally, add 1tsp of ghee on to umpa and switch off the flame.
Transfer into a serving plate and enjoy this delicious and easy rava upma with sambar or chutney.
