Oats Dal Khichdi | Easy Oats Khichdi

Oats Dal Khichdi is a healthy and delicious one pot meal which can be prepared easily. This khichdi is made with oats, yellow moong dal and mixed veggies. For the first time, I made this oats khichdi and it turned out very well. I think there is no need for any side dish for this khichdi. It was a little bit spicy but we enjoyed it very much.

Ingredients

  • Oats – ½ cup
  • Moong dal – ¼ cup
  • Sliced onion – 1
  • Chopped tomato -1
  • Chopped carrot – ¼ cup
  • Green peas – ¼ cup
  • Chopped green beans – ¼ cup
  • Green chillies – 4
  • Cumin seeds- 1tsp
  • Asafoetida a pinch
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2tsp
  • Chopped ginger – 1tsp
  • Coriander leaves
  • Ghee – 1tbsp
  • Oil- 1tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash, soak the moong dal in the water for 10 minutes.
  2. In the meanwhile, chop onions, tomatoes and keep aside.
  3. Heat a pressure cooker with oil and ghee, add cumin seeds and when they begin to crackle add asafoetida and mix well.
  4. Add chopped onions, ginger, green chillies and fry for 2mintues or until the onions turns into light golden-brown colour.
  5. Then add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, veggies and cook till the tomatoes are mushed.
  6. Drain the water from dal and add to the pressure cooker along Oats and mix everything well.
  7. Add 2 ½ cups of water and mix well. Check the seasoning.
  8. Close the lid and cook on medium flame for 2 whistles.
  9. Once the pressure is released from the cooker, add coriander leaves and mix well.
  10. Transfer the Oats Dal Khichdi into a serving bowl and enjoy it warm.
